Die Halle für Kunst Lüneburg ist ein Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst in einer ehemaligen Maschinenfabrik am Rand der Lüneburger Altstadt. Unter neuer Leitung sollte sie nicht nur strukturell, sondern auch räumlich neu organisiert werden. Ziel waren einerseits pragmatische Renovationsarbeiten, andererseits ein Neudenken der unterschiedlichen räumlichen Nutzungen sowie ein neues, repräsentatives Gesicht der Institution.
The Halle für Kunst Lüneburg, located on the outskirts of Lüneburg’s old town, is a space dedicated to contemporary art. Under new management, the goal was to reorganize the space structurally and spatially. Objectives included practical renovations, rethinking the various spatial uses, and creating a new, representative image for the institution.
Das Herz der Institution ist die zentrale, ehemalige Fabrikhalle, ergänzt durch Lagerflächen und einen kleinen Nebenraum. In der Haupthalle organisieren wir Ausstellungsraum und Büronutzung als eine Einheit und lösen so die Grenze zwischen Front- und Backstage auf.
Das flexibel entworfene Mobiliar – bestehend aus einem grossen Tisch, mehreren Hockern, einer Bank oder Auslage sowie einem Stehpult – dient sowohl der Büroarbeit als auch als Ausstellungsdisplay. Im Nebenraum werden die bestehenden Toiletten mit neu einer kleinen Küche und einem Aufenthaltsbereich kombiniert.
At the heart of the institution lies the central former factory hall, which is complemented by storage areas and a small adjoining room. In the main hall, we organize the exhibition space and office areas as a single unit, blurring the line between the front and back stages.
The flexible furniture design consists of a large table, several stools, a bench or display unit, and a standing desk, serving both for office work and as exhibition displays. The side room contains the existing restrooms, a new small kitchen, and a resting and meeting area.
Das Projekt wurde selbst wie eine Ausstellung umgesetzt. Das Budget war minimal, und anstelle klassischer Ausschreibungen erfolgte die Realisierung in direkter Zusammenarbeit mit dem hausinternen Ausstellungsteam – was situative Entscheidungen direkt vor Ort ermöglichte.
The project itself was executed like an exhibition. Due to the minimal budget, the project was carried out in direct collaboration with the in-house exhibition team instead of following the traditional bidding process. This allowed for direct communication and on-site decisions.
